Galaxy’s Edge at Disney World is finally open and it’s a sight to behold- literally! Thousands of Star Wars fans and park guests came to the opening day festivities to celebrate its opening.
And who best to welcome guests to Batuu? Hondo Ohnaka!
As always, Hondo is- well, Hondo! Just never question him about whether if his shipping business on Batuu is “legitimate” or not.
And as you can see, the park looks jam-packed! Not a surprise, really. But before Galaxy’s Edge was even opened, everyone knew how popular the attraction or in this case, “planet,” would be. Just like what occurred at Disneyland earlier this year in May, the same happened at Disney World.
Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland became so jam-packed to the point it reached its full capacity on opening day! It is no surprise that Disneyland’s bigger brother, Disney World, did the exact same thing. Opening day was so busy that Smuggler’s Run at 9 in the morning, had an enormous wait time of 300 minutes (5 hours)! During one of the hottest months of the year, I couldn’t imagine standing five hours in the scorching hot sun, not to mention in the out-of-this-world humidity as well.
Shortly after the park opened, guests were forced to follow the boarding-pass system, in other words, a virtual queue where they signed up on a waiting list to later enter the park.
Here’s the breakdown on how opening day went:
“At 10:30 a.m. ET, the app said the foremost group would not be allowed in until the “afternoon.” The ride in the land, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, had a three-hour wait at 10:30 a.m. ET, according to the app.
By 2:45 p.m. ET, the land had gone off the wait and was listed as open to all, according to the park app. The wait time for the ride was down to two hours.”
Hollywood Reporter
Although opening day was quite hectic, crowds and wait times will continue to diminish with time, as shown at Disneyland. However, once their huge ride Rise of the Resistance opens on December 5th, I would expect lines to be crazy once again until the end of the year.
Always remember, as you plan your travel to Galaxy’s Edge at either Disneyland or Disney World, I would suggest checking out fast passes as they become available and what time of the day or year to go to help alleviate any stressful situations during your stay.
