Back in March, we reported that EA Motive’s smaller-scale Star Wars game project titled, Project Maverick, is a flight simulator. The “smaller, more unusual” game was first reported by Jason Schreier. Soon after, a data-mining bot account on Twitter revealed it to be a multiplayer game featuring up to five players at a time. Apparently, Maverick’s background music that plays on the PlayStation’s home screen was also leaked.
Update: The event has been canceled by PlayStation and no new date was given. Stay tuned here as this story progresses. Here’s the official announcement.
Since then, things have gone radio silent. Yesterday, Jordan Maison sparked the fire and hinted toward a possible reveal of Project Maverick coming next week.
Further confirmation of the rumor came when EA Motive received an official Twitter account yesterday. It’s first tweet was retweeted with a response from Jason Schreier that said, “Looks like someone’s getting ready to announce a new game.”
VentureBeat journalist, Jeff Grubb, also got in on the act to tweet something quite profound – a GIF that includes Tom Cruise in the upcoming Top-Gun sequel, Maverick.
Based on these tweets, it’s highly likely we’ll be getting a reveal of Project Maverick next week on Tuesday, June 2nd. The concept a Star Wars themed space combat simulator sounds absolutely thrilling!
Join us next week for the reveal! And don’t forget, Battlefront II will be free the entire month of June for PlayStation users!
